PowerFlex 6000 medium voltage variable frequency drives (VFDs) packaged in Type 3R or IP54 enclosures are specifically designed and built for outdoor or remote installations to eliminate the need for a control room. The PowerFlex 6000 drive technology is suited for all-purpose, non-regenerative applications such as fans, pumps, compressors, mills and flat-land conveyors.
The Productivity family of controllers now offers the MQTT protocol for connections to cloud computing platforms. MQTT has become the front-runner for many machine-to-machine (M2M) and IIoT/cloud networking applications, due to its lightweight overhead and reduced bandwidth consumption. Productivity PLCs now support MQTT communication and with the fill-in-the-blank MQTT messaging configurations within Productivity Suite, delivering vital data to advanced cloud computing platforms is easy.
AutomationDirect has added Gladiator GCB series molded case circuit breakers to their lineup of circuit protection devices. Gladiator MCCBs are designed to reliably protect circuits and equipment from thermal overloads, short circuits, and ground faults. Available in two or three-pole configurations, these high-performance circuit breakers are offered in seven frame sizes up to 1200A with a selection of trip units and up to a 100kA interrupting capacity.
Available in a compact design constructed from chemically inert PVDF material, the RLI Series Non-Contact Radar Sensor features models that work in tanks up to 49.21’ (15 m) deep! Its simplified programming and setup via Bluetooth® connection make installation quick and easy. In addition, it can run diagnostics to view signal strength and tank obstructions. Learn more about Radar Technology and its benefits over other sensing technologies.
The trend toward highly dynamic drive systems has clearly strengthened in recent years. The STS absolute motor feedback system ensures maximum flexibility and precision when measuring the position and speed of hollow shaft motors and direct drives. The non-contact magnetic measurement principle works without causing wear. A scalable measurement system, the STS adapts to different hollow shaft diameters of the application. In addition, the STS scores points with its particularly flat design and compact dimensions, making it the ideal solution for tight installation situations. Thanks to the standardized HIPERFACE® interface, the motor feedback system can be easily integrated into nearly any industrial environment.
Control Techniques, part of the Nidec group of companies, is launching a new member to the Commander family of drives and a revolutionary app named Marshal. Commander S provides a solution for applications that require plug-and-play control convenience straight from the box. It’s easy to install, easy to use, reliable and cost effective. Commander S is allegedly the first drive to come with an app interface as a standard feature at no extra cost. Marshal revolutionizes how the user interfaces with the drive covering commissioning, monitoring, diagnostics, and support.

AutomationDirect has added BPA series split-frame and BRM series solid-frame cable entry systems and cable glands from Bimed. Cable entry systems provide safe installation into enclosures or electrical equipment, securing cables and providing strain relief while maintaining enclosure sealing requirements. The BPA series cable entry system allows cables to be installed through an enclosure or other bulkhead surface without requiring disassembly of connectors from pre-made or terminated cables and without compromising environmental protections.

Nidec Servo Corporation announced recently that it has launched the world’s first* brushless DC motors equipped with Can-Bus, a communication function for vending machines’ product pay-out mechanisms. Can-Bus (Controller Area Network-Bus), a type of vehicle bus, or an internal communications network that interconnects devices inside a vehicle or a train, enables microcontrollers and devices to communicate with one another without a host computer. Though originally designed for multiplexed in-vehicle electrical wiring that is required to be noise-resistant, Can-Bus is now used widely for devices to communicate control information in such areas as robotics, which includes transportation equipment and machine tools.
Motors in conveyor systems need to be switched off safely, but the wiring and energy distribution involved is usually very complex, involving bulky cable trays, and complex distribution boxes. As a result, Wieland Electric has developed a new motor starter that reduces the complexity of installation and improves the safety of conveyor systems. The podis MS 5HP is a compact, robust and user-friendly drive component with an integrated STO (Safe Torque Off) function.
ABB is adding two new robot families to its portfolio of large robots for complex manufacturing applications. Delivering enhanced speed, accuracy, flexibility, and a more robust design including integrated process cabling, ABB’s IRB 5710 and 5720 robots deliver increased productivity and enhanced performance with higher uptime for applications including electric vehicle (EV) manufacture, foundry, forging, rubber, plastics, and metal fabrication.

Put to the Ultimate Test – Part 1: Torsion Tests by HELUKABEL
Cables and wires in industrial robots and other moving machine parts are often required to withstand extreme stresses caused by torsion. Constant repetitive movements put materials under considerable strain. At the same time, operators expect components to function perfectly and reliably throughout their entire service life to avoid disruptions, outages and safety hazards.
For this reason, at HELUKABEL, we simulate intensive and continuous torsion stresses under realistic conditions with our high-tech testing equipment in Windsbach. We have several types of apparatus for doing this because some of our customers, for example those in the automotive industry, have very precise specifications for how a torsion test is carried out. The tests show that our cables and wires withstand speeds up to 1,000°/s, accelerations up to 2,000°/s² and torsion angles up to 720°. Hence, we make sure that each product always meets our customers’ high standards, and that they receive the impeccable quality they rightly expect from us as a leading supplier of cables, wires and accessories for more than 40 years.
